The first exhibition of the art project “The stone embroideries of Nova Kakhovka in textiles” opened in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. The event was officially opened by the Minister of Culture of Bulgaria Krastyu Krastev, the Ambassador of Ukraine in Bulgaria Olesia Ilashchuk and the author of the project Tanya Bolharova.

“Since this barbaric attack by the russian side on Ukraine began, the occupiers are destroying the historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine every day. And I, as the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria and as a person who has a direct relationship with culture throughout my life, strongly condemn these barbaric and inhuman actions on the part of the russian side,” said the Minister of Culture of Bulgaria at the opening of the exhibition.

The exhibition was visited by representatives of the government, parliament, clergy, the capital’s mayor’s office, non-governmental, business and artistic circles of Bulgaria, the diplomatic corps, as well as the Ukrainian community in Sofia.

The exhibition features 12 textile wall panels – copies of the “stone embroideries” of Nova Kakhovka, built in the 1950s during the construction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant and the North Crimean Canal. “The stone embroideries” were created based on the sketches of the famous Ukrainian monumental artist Hryhoriy Dovzhenko.

Support and organization: Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria, Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria, SUOB “Mother Ukraine”
