On May 30, 2024, the exhibition of the art project “The Stone Embroideries of Nova Kakhovka in Textiles” was opened in Paris at the Ukrainian Cultural Center, in the former house of Alain Delon, thanks to the support of the Centre Culturel d’Ukraine en France, Ambassade d’Ukraine en France, and SUOB “Mother Ukraine”. The exhibition will last until June 28, 2024.
The exhibition features 12 textile wall panels – copies of the “stone embroideries” of Nova Kakhovka, built in the 1950s during the construction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant and the North Crimean Canal. “The stone embroideries” were created based on the sketches of the famous Ukrainian monumental artist Hryhoriy Dovzhenko.
Through this exhibition, visitors can explore the rich artistic heritage of southern Ukraine, which today faces the threat of destruction due to the ongoing war. By transforming these historical ornaments into textile art, the project not only preserves the unique cultural identity of Nova Kakhovka but also serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience of Ukrainian art and history. Each embroidery is a tribute to the beauty and spirit of a town that continues to inspire, even in the face of adversity.
